Some kind words from current and former students:

"I had been playing drums for years, gigging and touring in rock bands. As a mainly self taught drummer I found myself stuck in comfort grooves, and my playing had pretty much hit a wall as far as progression goes. I took a year off from the industry and decided I need help with my playing to get my chops more developed. I enlisted Marshall Bureau as a teacher, and it was the best thing I could have ever done.

Marshall completely de-constructed my playing style and help rebuild it from the ground up. We reworked my grip, and went back to the essential building blocks of playing; rudiments, stick control, meter and limb independence. It was frustrating and weird at first because it really brought my weaknesses to the surface. I found myself saying "do I even know how to play drums?". I had played for years, but discovered I was completely technically unsound. Marshall gave me a new love for the drums by not only giving me practice exercises to develop my technique (which were of course challenging at every turn) but showed me how to employ these techniques and skills in a practical application. His patience with my growth, his straight up "no bull" attitude with telling me when I was doing well and when I had been slacking, really resonated with me. Seeing and hearing him play the drums with style and groove inspired me to be a better drummer. His positive re-informcement when my skills started to progress really gave me the hunger to be better as I could hear my playing progress, and had an incredible drummer nodding saying "ya, that's it". After working weekly with Marshall for a year, he gave me the tools to really be able to bring a creative, fresh approach to any situation I would be playing in. I now find myself in a solid pro project (WAXMEN) where my chops have never been better. I now have incredible confidence in my technical ability, meter and groove. I know that I am no longer a drummer who can just hold down a beat. I am now a drummer that can bring a controlled dynamic to any situation, and really add to the music. His teaching taught me not only how to play, but when not to play to let the music breathe.

Although I haven't worked with Marshall in the last year, I still use the lessons and exercises he taught me on a daily basis in my practice regime. I actually enjoy practicing now as I continue to push and challenge myself as Marshall did and my skills continue to grow. I cannot speak highly enough about Marshall. He is not only a world class drummer, he is truly a world class teacher."

"Marshall's ability to transfer his wealth of knowledge about the drums and music is truly amazing. I always looked forward to our weekly sessions knowing that I would come out a better player each time. Not only was I taught fundamentals of drumming but was also taught how to tap into my own creativity and given the tools to allow me to teach myself in the future. His patience, understanding, and dedication are all reasons why you should definitely take a lesson."
