Teaching
Marshall Bureau brings a wealth of experience and passion to his drum lesson environment. He has 10+ years of teaching experience, utilizing a proven and creative program that works individually with a student’s aptitudes and goals. Marshall's program explores the many techniques and sounds found in todays music, respects the tradition of the drumset and its short but storied history, while being flexible enough to respond to a students needs and desires.
Marshall has taught in many private music schools, including over 8 years of experience at Just Drums in Toronto. He is also currently running a private in-home teaching practice in Toronto.
Many of Marshall's students have moved on to post secondary music education at various prestigious Canadian Universities studying Jazz and/or Classical Percussion, as well as the Humber College Jazz Program. Others have enjoyed becoming succesful touring and/or recording artists, or have gone on to become recording engineers and even studio owners!
Performing
Marshall has the fortune of regularly performing live and/or in studio with critically acclaimed indie songwriting luminaries such as Octoberman, The Pinecones, Great Aunt Ida, Nick Zubeck, Barzin, Polyester Heart, Paul Linklater, Colleen and Paul, and more. Marshall has in the past performed with Ron Sexsmith, Dave Bidini (Rheostatics,) Selena Martin, Peirson Ross, and Jack Breakfast among many others.
He has toured North America and throughout the UK and Europe several times and also regularly performs with various theatre groups and choirs in the Niagara and Toronto region.
Recordings Marshall has played on have been critically acclaimed on Pitchfork.com, in Toronto's NOW Magazine, The Globe and Mail, the UK's MOJO Magazine (chosen Americana Album of the Month), and many more. Some of these recordings have also reached the top of the College Radio music charts across Canada.
Education
Marshall has always believed in the benefits of private, one-on-one instruction and has based his learning on intensive private study with the very best.
Marshall has played music from a young age, proficiently learning the piano, the guitar, and the alto saxophone. This has given him all the tools needed for reading and writing music, and for understanding the role of each group of instruments in a musical setting.
Marshall has performed in musical theatre settings, in rudimental drum groups, and in many improvised music settings.

- Chuck Burrows (highly respected drum set guru. Also the drum instructor for the Carleton University music department)
- Larry Graves (Mr. Something Something, highly respected african percussion/drumset instructor in Ottawa/Toronto)
- Peter Beaudoin (Ottawa session ace)
- Jim Black (NYC improvising master and educator)
Marshall has also been involved in hosting and participating in many clinics and workshops presented by masters of the art of drumming.
